Ethics of Excellence

> Praxis in excellence. Operational efficiëncy and commercial effectiveness are necessary but not sufficient conditions for sustainable success. Companies need to solve the People-Planet-Profit-paradox and do business socially responsible. This asks for more than ethical standards and governance codes and demands sustainable excellence. As entrepreneur, manager or professional, you can synthesize concretely human, natural and market values through your action. Connecting entrepreneurship starts with your willingness to become the connection and together with others to recognize the unity in diversity. Either in true partnership or fair competition. We would like to share with you in the articles below or in our programs how you can incorporate this virtuousness. <

Mental capital Print E-mail

> The human factor. The production factor capital is not only a matter of goods and money. In our information society real transactions increasingly become (also) ideal interactions. Tangible goods are improved or replaced by intangible services, experiences and identities. Harvesting machines, hoisting cranes and notebooks are necessary but no longer sufficient conditions for economic success. In our postmodern information age it is more and more about mental capital. The importance of mental capital has been confirmed by worldwide scientific research. What is mental capital? How can it be developed? And, who has it?

Economic investment. Mental capital stands for the economic meaning of good, healthy mental strength that enables human entrepreneurship in a sustainable way. Your intellectual power but also and especially your emotional balance and your ability to work together are critical mental success factors. You experience this in a negative way when stress blocks your excellence. In a positive sense, you experience your mental top form as the flow in which you reach the best in yourself and others. The results you obtain are sustainable because they lead to both extrinsic business success and intrinsic personal happiness. The connection between these elements has convincingly been determined in the much talked about promotion research by Rifka Weeshuizen (The economic significance of mental health, University Press Maastricht, 2008).

Human happiness. Happiness is the indicator for the health of mental capital, given by evolution. Happiness proves to be connected to the human ability of self realization. Both in your private and professional life. Loss of autonomy makes unhappy. Prof. Jan Walburg describes how you can develop your mental capital, both personally and in cooperation (Mentaal vermogen, investeren in geluk, Amsterdam, 2009). That development succeeds based on six principles from positive psychology:
1. Think positively.
2. Have a mission in life.
3. Enjoy consciously.
4. Interact with others.
5. Live healthy.
6. Share happiness.
These principles are simple in theory but prove to be hard in practice.

Practical philosophy. In order to develop your mental capital, you will have to develop your practical philosophy for yourself or your company. Behaviour, feelings and thoughts correlate and in mutual interaction determine your self-control, self-esteem and self-confidence and that of your colleagues and clients. Self reflection enables self awareness of mental logic and helps you to no longer passively react to impulses but to act actively from internal strength. By that mental capital is important for everyone who wants to work, learn and live in a entrepreneurial way. There is no 10-step program with guaranteed success to reach it. But there is a way in which the journey already becomes destination. As a guide I am happy to help you on your way ...
